Arizona to Require Citizenship Proof for State Elections

Illegal Immigration and Arizona, next round.

From MSN:

The U.S. Supreme Court voted 7-2 in June to strike down a voter-registration law designed to stop illegal immigrants from casting ballots in the state, which borders Mexico and has been at the heart of the U.S. national battle over immigration.
The law had required would-be voters to show proof of citizenship both when registering to vote and when casting a ballot, but the court ruled that the measure was trumped by federal law.
On Monday, Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne spelled out the new policy in an opinion issued in response to a request from Secretary of State Ken Bennett, seeking clarification in light of the top court's ruling.
"Those who registered to vote using the federal form, which does not require evidence of citizenship, should not vote in state elections or sign petitions," Horne, a Republican, concluded in the 16-page opinion.
Related: Southern states are moving to tighten voting rules
But he said the rules outlined in the Arizona voter registration measure, Proposition 200, were still valid for local elections.
"Persons seeking to register to vote must comply with Proposition 200's evidence of citizenship requirement in order to become ... eligible to vote in state and local elections and to sign candidates, initiative, referendum or recall petitions," he added.
It should be noted that illegal immigration is not as tolerated in Mexico, which has, traditionally, had some very harsh penalties for persons found to be in Mexico illegally. Under pressure from the U.S., Mexico has begun to implement changes to their own policies regarding illegal immigration within Mexican borders.

One has to wonder how many "undocumented workers" have been furloughed by the U.S. federal government during the shutdown.

Does the government practice what it preaches in the hiring of  the "undocumented?"

Or is this something that the government, once again, expects for the rest of the country to tolerate and promote while exempting itself?

Sic vis pacem parabellum.

ALIPAC - North Carolina Illegal Alien Students Update

From Email:

ALIPAC
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Maximum Effort Needed to Get Your State To Follow NC Lead!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Friends of ALIPAC,

We have a victory to report that needs your immediate attention and assistance!

This is a major concern for each of you in every state and we need all ALIPAC national activists to respond quickly and fervently to while the ball is in our court!

Action Item 1

NC Precedent Could Affect Other States If You Take Action!

Thanks to your prior calls, e-mails, and faxes, combined with ALIPAC's national media effort, we have a big win in NC! The NC Attorney General, Roy Cooper, has issued a statement that our community colleges should not allow illegal aliens to attend at any price. The Community College system has decided to follow his recommendations despite the challenges from our pro-illegal alien Governor Mike Easley.

Unfortunately, our UNC College System President, Erskine Bowles, plans to still allow illegals to go to those schools.

To our knowledge, this ruling is the first of its kind as most states allow illegal aliens to attend, if they pay out of state tuition and a few states even force taxpayers to subsidize illegal alien students with in-state tuition.

Please take the following 2 important steps.

Action Item 1, Step A.

Step A. (Mass Feedback to NC Officials)

Contact the following officials by phone, followed by e-mail, fax, or letter to share your opinions.

Contact these folks to thank them for their opposition to illegal aliens attending colleges in NC!

Thank...

"Attorney General _____:

As a citizen of our state, I request that you follow the lead of the NC Attorney General and NC Community College system by stopping illegal aliens from attending any of our state sponsored colleges immediately. The NC officials have ruled that allowing illegal aliens into colleges may violate Federal law and open our state up to legal challenges. Also, we need to remove any incentives that encourage people to illegally immigrate during this crisis. I hope to hear that my home state of _____ is following NC's lead on this matter soon."

You may also want to send word of this to your state reps and ask them to run with the ball.

Please feel free to post your progress, your messages to officials, and any questions or feedback at this coordination link....

North Carolina Stops Allowing Illegals Into Community Colleges

That's right, you read the title right.

The State of North Carolina will no longer admit illegal aliens into their Community College system.

RALEIGH – Based on an advisory letter from the Office of the Attorney General, beginning immediately, the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) will no longer admit individuals classified as illegal or undocumented immigrants into curriculum degree programs. This action is in response to the recent advice provided to the NCCCS general counsel by the Office of the Attorney General on May 6, 2008 and a subsequent meeting with the AG’s Office on Monday, May 12. The System has asked the AG’s Office to pursue further federal clarification.

“We asked the Attorney General’s Office for clarification of our present policy and will abide by their advice,” said System President R. Scott Ralls. “We will continue to be a primary source of economic advancement for the state by providing world-class education and workforce training to every student eligible to enroll.”

In December 2007, the NCCCS sought clarification from the Attorney General regarding a System Numbered Memo, dated November 7, 2007, that had been sent to all 58 community colleges mandating they admit illegal aliens at the out-of-state tuition rate. That rate is calculated to equal 140% of what it costs the state to provide a full-time education to one student. The November directive was the result of the NCCCS interpretation of an earlier Attorney General advisory letter that said community colleges could not impose nonacademic criteria for admission, which supported the “open door” policy of the NCCCS.

In the May 6 letter, the Office of the Attorney General advised the NCCCS to return to the directive in System Numbered Memo 01-271, dated December 21, 2001, that prohibits undocumented students from taking curriculum degree classes. That memo places no restriction on high school students taking any community college classes or on any adult who seeks non-college level courses which include GED, Adult High School, ESL, and continuing education classes.
Ok, I've got to ask.

If you've read me for a while, you know what's coming.

If not, brace yourself, and strap in tight.

What in the BLUE HELL was the community college system in North Carolina doing letting illegal aliens into the programs to begin with? What does this do to North Carolinians who are wanting to get into programs but can't because the slots are full from having allowed illegals into the programs.

WHAT PART OF ILLEGAL IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND?

Municipalities and state and federal government agencies who allow illegal aliens to come into this country and access programs and services that are meant for American citizens are guilty of harboring fugitives from justice. Anyone who comes into this country illegally should immediately be considered a fugitive, because the first act that they have committed by being on our soil illegally is a crime.

IT IS THAT CUT AND DRY.

If someone were to enter your home without permission, they would be charged with breaking and entering, upon capture. So what in the HELL is so difficult in applying the rule of law to those entering this country illegally?

I honestly don't get it. I do not understand the notion of making an exception and trying to gain acceptance for some 20 million people who add a tremendous burden to our economy in the use of public assistance programs, the loss of employment to individuals who can be paid lower wages because their status doesn't permit them to report unfair labor-wage practices, the blind eye turned to the growing problem of identity theft in order to provide illegals with forged documents, and the like.

I do not understand government agencies not only granting public assistance to illegals, but ENCOURAGING THEM TO APPLY FOR IT.

What is wrong with our thinking?

I can sum it up in one word: Inverted.

Jamiel's Law Presented to Los Angeles City Council

On Sunday, March 2, 2008, Jamiel Andre Shaw, Jr., was murdered not five minutes from his home in Los Angeles. He was 17 years old.

Jamiel was a star football player, a "stand-out," with one coach describing him as a "Houdini on the football field." He was found on the ground outside by his father, who had come out after hearing gunshots. His mother Anita, a sergeant in the army, was in Iraq on her second deployment and had to return home to bury her son.

To say that the loss of this young man is a tragedy would be a major understatement. From everything that I've been able to glean through the pages upon pages of news articles, memorials, and tributes, this was a fine young man with his future fully ahead of him. I look at my own son, who is 18, awaiting graduation in a month and looking forward to entering college this coming fall to pursue his dreams. I look back, thinking, at the time when I was the same age, and the dreams I had of my own future.

Yes, my heart goes out to the Shaw family, and I am fully behind them in what they are undertaking as a result of their son's murder. I can not fathom the grief that they are feeling, and I can not imagine the anger that they feel inside concerning the incident surrounding the senseless death of their son.

You see, Jamiel Shaw's murder could have been prevented.

That's right, it didn't have to happen, because the gang member accused of his murder, 19 year old Pedro Espinoza, who is a documented member of the 18th Street Gang, is an illegal alien.

Nineteen-year-old Pedro Espinoza was arrested Friday and appeared in court Tuesday for arraignment, but it was postponed until March 25 at his request while a public defender is assigned to him. Espinoza is a "documented member" of the 18th Street gang.

The charge includes the special circumstance allegation that the defendant was "an active participant in a criminal street gang and the murder was carried out to further the activities of the criminal street gang."

Prosecutors are expected to decide later whether to seek the death penalty against Espinoza, who was arrested last Friday by Los Angeles police.

Shaw's family is taking an active stand in the wake of the loss of their son. There is an old saying, "You can't fight city hall." The Shaw's are doing otherwise, joining in the fight against the Los Angeles policy of being a "sanctuary city," a municipality that allows illegals to come in without worry of being apprehended for their status. In Los Angeles, this falls under "Special Order 40."

Drafted by Walter Moore, a political opponent of LA Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, the Shaw's and supporters are pushing for the city council to adopt an ordinance named "Jamiel's Law," which would enable Los Angeles law enforcement to begin checking the legal status of suspected gang members and illegal immigrants. At this point, the ordinance is not expected to pass. (Video available here for email subscribers.)

Anita Shaw is scheduled to return to duty with the army in early April.

To some, Jamiel Shaw is a statistic, a casualty in an ongoing war in Los Angeles between ethnic groups. But to the Shaw's, and the friends and family of Jamiel Shaw, he was more than just a statistic. He was a young man on the verge of becoming an adult, with a promising future laying before him.

Jamiel Shaw is but one death, not just in Los Angeles, but across the country. But each life lost in the quiet invasion of this nation by illegal immigrants is a life that someone cherished, a life that touched and affected others, a life ended by someone who is here illegally. Each of those lives, each of those people, are mourned and missed by their families and friends.

What part of "illegal" is so hard to understand? Before you answer this question, those of you who want so desperately to simply forgive and allow those here to be given amnesty, think about how you would sell it to Sgt. Anita Shaw and tell her your answer. I'm sure she'd love to tell you her opinion as well.

Illegal Immigration Taken on by Local Law Enforcement Agencies

Under growing pressure from citizens across the country, local law enforcement agencies have begun to utilize the training program offered for 12 years by ICE so that they can begin handling illegal aliens when they are apprehended.

The ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) Agency has had a program available since 1996 to teach local law enforcement agencies how to properly handle the capture of suspected illegal aliens. Until 2002, only one agency had participated. Now, after growing political and public pressure to address illegal immigration, ICE has trained 41 additional agencies and has 92 more lined up waiting to complete training as well.

Deputies in Houston, Texas, routinely check the immigration status of individuals who are booked into the county jail. New Jersey law enforcement is under orders from the state attorney general to verify citizenship status of individuals taken into custody. Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty has ordered state officials to enforce immigration laws. And, it goes without saying, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Phoenix, Arizona, is taking on the enforcement of immigration laws.

Critics have lined up on both sides of the argument for and against the current move toward apprehending illegals. Some argue that it makes certain individuals more suspicion and apprehensive in contacting law enforcement when they need it out of fear of having their residency status scrutinized. Others feel that it's past time for local agencies to step in and do their part in enforcing the laws that are on the books which make being in the country illegally a crime.

That fear has been exacerbated by accounts — some rumored, some real — of people being turned over to immigration officials after being stopped for minor offenses such as traffic violations and loitering, or after going to police to report a crime.

In Newark, N.J., a freelance photographer who stumbled upon on a dead body in an alley and reported the discovery to police was detained and asked about his immigration status.

In Falls Church, Va., staffers at the Tarirhu Justice Center, which works with immigrant victims of domestic abuse, say they are fielding calls from women who have been assaulted, yet refuse to go to police.

Rumor and speculation, sometimes spread by those who advocate amnesty for those living here illegally, don't help dispel mistrust for law enforcement agencies who are simply trying to enforce the law.

One thing is for certain, and that is that with the large number of illegal immigrants who have already established themselves in our country, it's not going to be an easy task for any agency or agencies. However, perhaps the words of Joe Arpaio sum it up better than any that have been spoken by any other law enforcement official; "People ask me why I am taking this on? The last I heard, crossing the border is an illegal activity. I took an oath of office to enforce the law, so I am enforcing the law."

35 Year Old Convicted of Coercing 14 Year Old Illegal into Prostitution

The argument over the situation in the U.S involving illegal aliens continues to be a hot one. Some advocates for allowing free and open access continue to point to illegals coming here to "end their poverty and suffering." What happens, though, when someone can't come forward for protection by the law because of their legal status?

A Hyattsville, Md, man, 35 year old Javier Miguel Ramirez, has pleaded guilty to the sexual trafficking of a minor. In this instance, the minor involved was a 14 year old Mexican national who was not legally in the country.

According to his plea agreement, from August 2005 through June 2006, a Mexican national girl worked for Ramirez as a prostitute. Ramirez knew that the girl was only 14 years old when she began working for him. Ramirez instructed her to lie and tell clients that she was 20 years old. Upon receiving requests for sex from clients by phone, Ramirez caused the girl to be transported to residences in Maryland and Virginia to engage in sex. He instructed the girl to charge clients $25 or $30 per 15 minutes of sex. She was instructed to meet with 25 clients or more per day, and provided most of the money that she made to Ramirez.

According to testimony, the minor girl was dependent upon Ramirez for housing, clothing, and food, often being housed at his residence, where he also initiated a sexual relationship with her. When she would refuse, or indicate that she no longer wished to work as a prostitute and wished to be returned to Mexico, she was physically abused and told that if she did return to Mexico, "it would be in a box."

"Few crimes are more repugnant than sex trafficking a helpless and innocent girl," James A. Dinkins, the special agent in charge of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Baltimore, said in a statement. Maryland U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein called the act a "depraved and morally reprehensible crime."

Ramirez now faces the possibility of a maximum 40 year sentence in prison, followed by 5 years of supervision after release, and a fine of $250,000. His sentencing will be carried out on 23JUN2008 at 2:00 p.m. As of his conviction, he is required to register as a sex offender in any state in which he holds residence, work, or attends school.

I sincerely HOPE that some of you out there advocating illegal immigration come to the defense of this. I would just LOVE to know how you can justify this sort of activity. Especially those of you with daughters around the same age. Go on, look into the eyes of your little girl and find the justification for this sort of thing.

I challenge you to do so.

What part of illegal is so hard to understand?

I've long maintained that I have a huge love for the Mexican culture. Mexican food, the Spanish language, Mexican guitar music while drinking Corona beer on a Saturday night, listening to the coyotes yipping in the distance across the moonlight across the both the Kansas and Texas prairies.

The influence of Spanish culture on this country can be seen in the number of cities and towns across the United States bearing Spanish names. From Saint Augustine, the nation's oldest settlement predating Jamestown and Plymouth, to Los Angeles, San Antonio, Los Cruses, and so many, many others, the presence of Spanish exploration and settlement of this nation is unarguable.

That being said.

We cannot exist in this nation, as a nation, without the rule of law. We cannot exist as a nation without having some sort of way of securing our national borders and not allowing a steady stream of illegal border crossings, be it the large numbers of people coming into our country and staying, or fugitives fleeing justice to other nations who will not return them TO our nation for justice.

This past week we have seen two incidents that bring this problem back into the national spotlight, and the questions again arise of what to do about securing our borders. In the first case, highly publicized, we have the case of a young Marine, accused of murdering another Marine and burying her body in a fire pit in his back yard, who has become a fugitive from justice and has possibly fled to his native Mexico to escape American authorities.

A wide-ranging manhunt for Cpl. Cesar Armando Laurean began last week, after authorities said he fled North Carolina and left behind a note in which he admitted burying the body of Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach, who had accused him of rape. Detectives later found Lauterbach's burned remains in a fire pit in his backyard.

Court documents filed this week by the FBI state Laurean told members of his Marine Corps unit he would flee to Mexico if it appeared he would be found guilty of rape. Laurean's wife also told authorities she believed he would head to Mexico if he was in trouble.

"We strongly suspect, but have not confirmed, that Laurean may be in Mexico," said FBI spokesman Richard Kolko in Washington. "We have a strong working relationship with law enforcement partners in Mexico and we're working with them to locate and apprehend him."

Laurean is a naturalized American citizen with family still living in Mexico, where it is believed he has fled to avoid prosecution in the United States. Mexican policy is that they will not extradite individuals sought outside their borders who are facing the death penalty or life imprisonment without parole. North Carolina, where Laurean is under investigation for the death of fellow Marine Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach, who is believed to have been pregnant with Lauren's child, does prosecute death penalty cases. Laureans wife, still in North Carolina, is said to be cooperating with the investigation.

This is just one incident. Controversial bounty hunter Duane "Dog" Chapman escaped extradition to Mexico to face charges of illegally apprehending Max Factor heir Andrew Luster to California to serve his sentence for conviction of rape charges in 2003. Mexican law does not permit bounty hunters to enter Mexico and arrest fugitives, but the case of has been dropped by Mexico.

The other incident from this past week involves border enforcement itself, as once again U.S. Border agents have become involved in an incident along the U.S.-Mexican border, this time resulting in the loss of life of one of their agents.

Senior Patrol Agent Luis Aguilar was trying to stop a suspected smuggler who had illegally entered the country from Mexico when he was hit, according to Agent Michael Bernacke, a spokesman for the agency's Yuma sector.

The incident happened in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area about 20 miles west of Yuma at about 9 a.m. Saturday.

Bernacke said Aguilar was trying to place spike strips in the path of a Hummer and a Ford pickup truck on Interstate 8 when the suspected smuggler's vehicle hit and killed him.

Both vehicles fled into Mexico.

The FBI is investigating this situation. Aguilar leaves behind a wife and two children. Mexican authorities are said to be offering their full cooperation into the investigation of the incident. This incident is just one of several that can be found in headlines and newscasts across the country. Not a week passes that there isn't an incident involving illegal immigrants who have been involved in drunk driving accidents, homicides, burglaries, or rape cases, one very bizarre incident includes an illegal in Miami raping a puppy. I don't think this is what liberals have in mind when they say our strength is in our diversity.

We focus so much on Mexican illegals because of the high numbers of them in the United States. According to Census statistics in 2000, the number was around 8 to 11 million. More up to date estimates put the number currently around 18 million. While many argue that these people have come here to make their lives better, the question remains; are they? And what are they contributing to the American economy? The Christian Science Monitor released an article in March of 2007 showing the cost to the American people of illegal immigration. From the lack of taxes paid by illegal workers to their use of public resources, public education, and the like, illegal immigration is creating an artificial burden on the American economy that could be rectified by simply enforcing existing laws regarding the issue OF illegal immigration. Sanctuary cities and states create havens for people who have entered our country and their first act is a violation of the law simply by the manner in which they came into the country. States where immigration laws are being enforced are showing results, but the availability of sanctuary in other places simply displaces them further across our own country instead of giving them reason to go back to their own.

There are many proposals for how to deal with the problem of securing our borders and handling the issue of illegal immigration. One that is circulating the currently comes from actor turned radio talk show host Jerry Doyle, perhaps my personal favorite, which he calls his "legal immigration ten commandments." Another option would to be to adopt laws similar to those IN Mexico, where it is a felony to be an illegal immigrant:

At a time when the Supreme Court and many politicians seek to bring American law in line with foreign legal norms, it's noteworthy that nobody has argued that the U.S. look at how Mexico deals with immigration and what it might teach us about how best to solve our illegal immigration problem. Mexico has a single, streamlined law that ensures that foreign visitors and immigrants are:

# in the country legally;
# have the means to sustain themselves economically;
# not destined to be burdens on society;
# of economic and social benefit to society;
# of good character and have no criminal records; and
# contributors to the general well-being of the nation.

The law also ensures that:

# immigration authorities have a record of each foreign visitor;
# foreign visitors do not violate their visa status;
# foreign visitors are banned from interfering in the country's internal politics;
# foreign visitors who enter under false pretenses are imprisoned or deported;
# foreign visitors violating the terms of their entry are imprisoned or deported;
# those who aid in illegal immigration will be sent to prison.

Critics and skeptics argue that it's too late to do anything about the illegals currently residing in the States. Personally, I'm not so sure. President Eisenhower authorized the implementation of Operation Wetback in 1954, in which 1.2 million illegals were deported back to their home countries. I'm not so sure we'd have to go to such extreme measures today. If laws currently on the books were enforced, such as prosecuting employers who hire illegals, depriving them of government assistance which was set up for American citizens and NOT for those here illegally, I believe, as do many others, that with no resources, the flow of illegals coming into this country would drop dramatically, and we would see a sort of reverse migration of illegals returning to their own countries of their own accord.

The first step is to start enforcing the existing laws, rather than encouraging people to break them. Then, perhaps, we can get back to kicking back with a nice cold Corona and listening to the soft strumming of a legal Mexican guitar player under a moonlit sky on the Texas prairie while the coyotes yip in the distance...

Newark Executions Update

We first brought you this story here.

There is breaking news in this case, and if this doesn't just SCREAM for our borders to be secured and for a roundup of illegals in this country to start, I don't know what does.

Hat tip to Allahpundit at Hot Air for this.

Man Charged in Newark Deaths Pleads Not Guilty

By KAREEM FAHIM and ANDREW JACOBS
Published: August 10, 2007

NEWARK, Aug. 10 — A third suspect, identified as a teenager, has been arrested in the execution-style slayings of three students here Saturday night, the authorities said.

The two others charged so far are a 28-year-old construction worker and a 15 year old.

The construction worker, Jose Carranza, is an illegal immigrant from Peru who now also faces an order of detention against him by federal authorities, his lawyer and judicial officials said today.

Mr. Carranza pleaded not guilty to the murder and other charges at an arraignment this morning where family members of the victims, Mayor Cory A. Booker, the Essex County Sheriff and Prosecutor, and his own mother and brother packed the courtroom.

[...]

Mr. Carranza, with previous arrests on charges of aggravated assault and rape, was scheduled to be arraigned this morning. “Our work is only just starting,” said Garry F. McCarthy, the city’s police director. “We only got 40 percent of them.”

Investigators said that the surviving victim, Natasha Aeriel, answering questions in between periods of sedation at University Hospital, identified Mr. Carranza from mug shots.

Mr. Booker praised Ms. Aeriel, 19, who was shot in the head, for her “incredible courage.”

The girl Carranza is charged with raping is five years old. FIVE YEARS OLD.

Those of you with small children, I want you to take a moment and look over at them. Young. Innocent. If they're anything like my own seven year old daughter, full of curiousity and impish mischief. BUT NOT OLD ENOUGH TO EXPERIENCE ANY SORT OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY.

WHAT KIND of SICK, DISGUSTING ANIMAL rapes a five year old?

I'm not much of one for politicizing things such as crime, but this is one of those rare exceptions that arises and demands to be held out as an example.

Mr. President, SECURE OUR BORDERS. It IS possible to round up the illegals in this country AND SEND THEM PACKING.

How much more do our citizens have to take before something is done?

Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families who have been so brutally violated by these animals.

A little something from email:

HOOVER & EISENHOWER DEPORTED MILLIONS OF ILLEGALS!

Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around. I didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me. But, back during the Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of all illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work. And then again in 1954, Pre sident Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican nationals! The program was called "Operation "Wetback" so that American WWII and Korean veterans had a better chance at jobs. It took 2 years, but they deported them! Now, if they could deport the illegals back then, they can sure do it today!! If you have doubts about the accuracy of this information, enter Operation Wetback into your favorite search engine and confirm it for yourself. Reminder. Don't forget to pay your taxes... 12 million illegal aliens are depending on you!

GOOD NEWS FOR THE GOP!

Have you ever sat down and wondered what the percentages are in the country in regards to who belongs to which political party? There ARE people who keep up with this information, and following last weeks "Battle Royale" over illegal immigration, it might surprise you to see how Americans classify themselves, politically, when it comes to the two main parties.

Hat tip to Don Surber for this information from the Rasmussen poll, which shows that the number of people who lay claim to being Republicans is up, and the number claiming to be Democrats is on the decline.

Following Immigration Debate, Number of Republicans in USA Increases
Sunday, July 01, 2007

During the month of June, the number of people identifying themselves as Republicans increased and the number of Democrats was little changed. That’s the first time in 2007 that the number of Republicans has increased. The gap between the parties the smallest it has been since last July.

It’s interesting to note that the number of Republicans increased during the same month that the President’s Job Approval fell to another all-time low.

A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of 15,000 adults in June found that just 32.0% now say they’re Republicans. That’s up more than a full percentage point from a month ago and is within a tenth-of-a-point of the GOP’s best showing in ten months.

The survey also found that the number of people identifying themselves as Democrats fell two-tenths of a point to 36.1% in June. Only once since January 2004 has the number of Democrats in the country been lower (35.9% in December 2005). Democrats gained about two percentage points of support during 2006 and peaked at 38.0% in December of last year. Since actually taking control of Congress, Democrats have given back all of those gains.

The number not affiliated with either major party fell a point to 31.9%. That’s up nearly eight percentage points since Election 2004.

(...)

The immigration debate appears to have helped the Republican Party while hurting the President and other supporters of the “comprehensive” reform legislation. Prior to the debate, 47% of voters trusted Democrats more on the immigration issue. Following the failure of the Senate bill, just 39% trust the Democrats more on the issue. In fact, among unaffiliated voters, Republicans are now trusted more than the Democrats on immigration. The only other issue where the GOP can make that claim is national security.

Immigration and national security. Two key elements, hand in hand, that the polled members agree that they trust more to the Republicans than the Democrats. More people are lining up behind the Republican party than the Democratic party.

Folks, in my mind, this speaks volumes. When listening to the Democrats with their hand-ringing blurbs about how we should be accepting and forgiving of those coming into our country illegally, is it any wonder that the Republicans, many of whom have taken a stand AGAINST the President on the issue of illegal immigration and amnesty, are gaining grounds as we approach next year's elections?

Mr. President, you should be paying CLOSE attention to this. The American people have spoken and are speaking still.

Secure our borders, Mr. President.

Now.

And stop trying to make us one with Mexico, we've already had that war, as well as a Civil War, we don't want to revisit those days...

Cloture Tomorrow [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

A Senate source with well-established good instincts predicts: "Vote should be close... I'll be very surprised if this bill lives beyond tomorrow morning. Not certain, but four of the 64 are now on record as changing to “no” votes. One more and it’s over—assuming none of the “no” votes flip."

As I've said before, I can't help but think Harry Reid would love to be the guy who tried to get the president's bill through and simply couldn't because of Republicans. All he needs is for cloture to not happen tomorrow. Amnesty 8, give him that gift!

THIS IS BAD LEGISLATION THAT WE DO NOT NEED. I don't know how much more clearly it can be said than that.

Enough is enough. This has got to end, before it results in armed revolt and bloodshed. Is that what our Senate wants? Is that what our President wants? Because God KNOWS that is what is being said will happen by certain sections who are FED UP with this.

Pack your bags, Lamar...

Lamar Alexander, I remember when you walked 1,000 miles across the state of Tennessee in a red and black flannel shirt in your bid for Governor of Tennessee. I remember SEEING you walking down the street in the Fish Fry parade in Paris, Tennessee, smiling and waving at people along the route, shaking hands and the like.

It worked, you won two terms as Governor.

I remember your presidential bids in 96 and 2000. You had my support until you withdrew from the races, knowing it was an uphill battle that you couldn't win. You had my vote when you ran for the senate...

I tried calling your office to let my word, one of your constituents in this state, someone who VOTED for you, be known.

Thousands of us tried to call your office over the last few days.

From Thursday until Monday I got a busy signal.

People calling into talk radio shows across this state, Steve Gill primarily among them, reported the same. You know Steve Gill. You were on his show this morning, skirting questions and dancing around issues. That pissed your voter base off even more, those of us who could stomach listening to you talking out of both sides of your mouth after yesterday.

Busy signals, Lamar.

I don't recollect your predecessor, Fred Thompson, ever having busy signals when people tried to call in.

NOT FOR FIVE DAYS.

I know I don't speak for every Republican in this state, but I can tell you this. There are a LOT of us who are FURIOUS with your "yes" vote yesterday. You didn't listen. I can't prove that your phones where off the hook, but that's the speculation amongst the people who PUT YOU IN OFFICE.

I don't believe we'll be repeating that mistake.

Cinco ce Mayo...

I have no problem with Mexico or Mexicans. I love Mexican food and the Mexican culture. The Mexican people have a rich history, as full and interesting as our own.

I have no problem with Mexican's coming to the United States LEGALLY. I have no problem with ANY people coming here LEGALLY.

I have a severe problem with people coming into this country illegally and then trying to make OUR country into THEIR country. To quote one of the local talk radio hosts I listen to, "What part of ILLEGAL do you not understand?"

Our nation is at war with an enemy who uses subversive and sneaky tactics against us. There is a reason that they're called terrorists, it's not just some label that's been put on them for convenience. If we don't secure our Southern border we can COUNT on them coming in, as they already are, as they already have been, to disrupt things on our own shores. That also doesn't take into account the massive number of illegals who are here because they have stayed beyond the expiration of their visa's. This was the case with some of the hijackers on 9/11.

The American people are tired of illegals protesting in our streets demanding amnesty. "What part of ILLEGAL don't you understand?" Yesterday's May Day protests should have resulted in massive numbers of INS, border patrol, and other federal agents mobilizing to round up illegals while they were gathered in central locations and SHIPPING THEM ACROSS THE BORDER.

It didn't happen.

President Bush, we do NOT want the SPP, we do NOT want the the Trans-Texas highway, the Canada to Mexico corridor, Spanish control of toll roads cutting across our nation, or an unsecured southern border. You have our support in the war on terror, but this nonsense of an unsecured border, ESPECIALLY in a time of war, has to stop NOW.

What follows is an email I received a bit ago expressing the outrage and anger of MANY American citizens on this subject. Mind you, I'm not advocating violence, but in my mind, it speaks volumes:
